A working holiday is an ideal opportunity to enjoy a rewarding break where you can quickly feel part of our thriving community.  There are various tasks on offer and provides a perfect opportunity to experience the Buddhist way of life first hand.

What to expect

KMC Florida is located a short walk from downtown Sarasota and the Sarasota Bayfront.  A short drive will also get you to museums, parks and the beautiful Sarasota gulf coast beaches on Siesta Key, Longboat Key and Lido Key.

The work is varied possibly including cooking, gardening, office work, maintenance, crafts, etc…we are always interested in hearing of any specific skills you might be able to offer. Although the work is not always strenuous, it is important that you are reasonably fit and active to come on a working visit.

The Spiritual Program

As a working visitor you are welcome to take part in the spiritual activities at KMC Florida. In the evenings you can attend General Program meditation classes or daily prayers in the Temple. On weekends we hold Prayers for World Peace and Meditation Retreats and Events. These classes are all free to working visitors. Please note there are no classes during our term breaks.

Costs

We will provide seven days free dormitory accommodation and three vegetarian meals a day in exchange for 35 hours of work (usually spread over five days).

Working visits are usually offered for one week but can be extended for special projects or events. Working visits MUST be booked in advance. Drop-ins will not be accepted for working visits under any circumstances.

Food and accommodation

All meals are vegetarian including eggs and dairy products.

We offer comfortable dormitory accommodation – all you need to do is bring your own , work clothes and work shoes.

Please note: Since KMC Florida is a Buddhist Temple, visitors are asked not to drink alcohol or smoke on the premises. We also ask the visitors not to play musical instruments or sound systems anywhere on the property.
